Maine’s legislature has convened a “stakeholders committee” to make recommendations to the Department of Education and the Legislature for changes to Maine’s high-school graduation requirements. Through our lobbyists Bob Howe and Pam Cahill, MAAE and the organizations of the Arts are Basic Coalition (ABC) (hot link) advocated with the legislature’s Education Committee to have a Visual and Performing Arts representative added to the stakeholders’ group. The Education Committee decided not to add any content area representatives, but instead to provide at least one opportunity for public comment during the stakeholders’ group’s meetings.
